I'm on fire with my relationship with God! Through prayer and meditation, He has given me the desire to do good works in His name. Through the grace of God, my worldly desires don't seem as strong and my will to treat others kindly forefront in my daily actions. You can try to do goodness based on your desire, but it's a truer vocation when it comes from God.
If you strive to be good without God, you are the one disappointed when the fruits of that labor do not always materialize. When the desire to do good comes from God because of one's closeness to Him, it doesn't matter if kindness is reciprocated because the act of kindness given to please God itself brings joy!Don't get me wrong...I still catch my old ways slipping through (I really hate being interrupted when I'm in the middle of a project - but that's my job, dealing the public), but now I am immediately aware of it and change my attitude so that I don't make people feel uncomfortable.
With God, all things are possible!
